3ds for dq7 and then ps2 for dq8.
while 3ds dq7 was simplified/streamlined, the 3d graphics for story end up adding a lot more to the characters.

3ds dq8 has 2 new bonus characters, a new dungeon and a new alternate ending. the graphics are much worse than ps2 however, and the music was changed to synth along with several outfits and npcs being censored visually. 2 story scenes were also altered for violence. while you can fix the music and censored outfits/npcs if you have 3ds piracy, this version is best saved for a replay after you've beaten the ps2 version. especially for the new characters.

personally I always run through the original versions of games to see improvements. plus more dq that way
