I originated from /h/ long ago, but settled here as I was surprised there's others who like the same games I kept from my youth.

It has a lot of features, yes. I believe the NGPC is a 16-bit machine featuring the Motorola 68000. SNK did get a lot of practice making SD fighters on the original Gameboy, like some Samurai Spirits and Fatal Fury, so Match of the Millennium was their full effort game from the culmination of their experience.

I like the RetroHQ one for the Color, but I am unsure if it would work with the original. I can play original titles through the flash cart, but I am not sure if it would work the other way around.

Aside from the TurboExpress, it was the first portable system I really wanted. Was great playing linked games with friends. The quality of the games were great, the looked and sounded nice for a handheld too. If only SNK had the funds to stay around in the space longer.

Why is every other pixel either doubly tall or doubly wide in that picture?

2 button fighters can work. One button for kick one for punch. A quick press for light attacks, and a long press for heavy attacks. I remember going on a road trip playing SF2 on the TurboExpress, the select button toggled between punches and kicks, the run button was for light attacks 2 button for medium and 1 button for heavy. As I mained Guile at that time,I can keep in my mind if I wanted to use kicks or punches due to his great normal attacks. Sonic booms required punches and the sumersault was a kick, which covered the basis of zoning, anti-air, and combo enders.

I remember in the mid-90's I was earning $4.25 pre-tax an hour and spending almost my whole 2nd check on a console by Victor called the WonderMega. I remembered seeing how cool it looked in EGM and I always wanted one. Everyone was really into the Playstation at the timeso $70 for the system but the $80 to ship it from Japan was really costly. I was surprised the door is motorized and is opened via software, instead of a mechanical spring/latch mechanism, which I thought was real cool that the EGM articles never mentioned.

Before the Dreamcast released, I got a TurboDuo and TurboExpress with a lot of great games all at once from a collector. It was a huge bundle for $200USD, but I've always wanted to play all the cool PC-Engine games with their cool cutscenes. I had a few friends that had the TurboGrafx and PC-Engines at the time and they all loved playing games on it and I wanted to enjoy that too like they did.

All of my friends bought a NeoGeo Pocket Color, but I didn't have the money so I always went over to their places to play the games. Years later, one found it and gave it to me. I still enjoy playing the system, and I wished it stayed around longer as a lot of the games are really good.

Back in school, I remember playing a lot of Tetris on TI-85s. It did not have the gradients like a GameBoy, but only the few rich kids were able to have Gameboys back then.

I think the sticks are all plastic. The NGPC had a lot of different colored systems.

The slim was the last released ones, lacking the beveled edges on the sides, so a shell that's just about 4mm thinner. The slim models has "color" in a script font.

I think everyone is in agreement the NeoGeo Pocket SD is the best. A micro-SD card has enough space for all the games on hand, but it takes a bit to load those games onto the flash storage. Once you have chosen a few to be in flash storage, you don't have to have the microSD card in, and those games load up pretty fast. The last game loaded from flash loads even faster.
