What's the best port/version of Alone in the Dark?

Friend of mine had a 3DO and this game.
I didn't know about "Lovecraftian" horror at the time. From the first moments of this game, I was creeped the fuck out. It only got scarier as we managed to struggle through it. It scared me to the core and totally shaped what I think of now as scary for any media.

Resident Evil seemed like a weak knock off of this to me back in the day. nothing got to me like the original Alone in The Dark again until Eternal Darkness years later.

I'm going through some of my horror game backlog this month. So far I've beaten Alone in the Dark 1 and 2, working on 3 now, then I have some games called The 7th Guest and The 11th Hour that I got on GoG a while back, the Gabriel Knight series (I think this is horror), Phantasmagoria, Sanitarium, and some modern games like Metro 2034

What are some good retro horror vidya? PC, consoles, it doesn't matter. What are some of your favorite horror games? Which ones scared or unsettled you? What do you recommend for someone looking to binge on all things that are /vr/ horror?

Just finished this sucker. It was really antiquated, but good. Had a lot of great ideas.

Are the sequels worth trying out?
