/vr/ - Retro Games

I was too young to play/didn't have a PC but remember my older brother taking me to a LAN party at Ballarat Uni when I was about 9 years old in 2003.

I think what stuck out to me the most distinctly was everyone checking out each other's rigs before they played. There was one guy whose PC was water cooled which was like, a crazy thing to see back then and everyone was excited to see it.

Everyone was mostly playing RTS games like Warcraft 3, Tiberian Sun, Age of Empires - I think in Australia this was mostly what was popular at the time vs the USA I imagine you guys were playing like UT2K and stuff like that I guess.

I remember getting a burnt CD from my brother of maps that everyone swapped since these guys at the university had good internet meanwhile a kid from the outback like me was never gonna be able to download this stuff without getting yelled at.

It was a very different world. You really did have to be there - I mean I was and I still don't really feel like I "got" it.
