Ok. GoW 1 is a fine game. I wish the Blades of Artemis didn't suck. The pacing is kinda weird, some of the puzzles are annoying instead of difficult. Kratos screams a lot. Climbing back from hell was pretty badass. The soundtrack is amazing. I beat the game on Very Hard but used the infinite magic glitch specifically to spam it during the defend your family bit. The game was hardly tested for any difficulty above Normal. Getting the payoff for sticking with the trilogy by finally killing every god in 3 was really cathartic.

I'm playing through Skies of Arcadia for the first time. Great game. Does give me a depressing aura about the Dreamcast though. The vibrant colors, the VMU minigames, that Y2K feeling...it did not deserve its fate.

I have both games in my collection, played them back in the day but after the servers were already down, and I had no PS2 modem. I play actively on obsrv fan server. You'd be surprised how active such a small community is. I play a few stages a week and there's always people to play with. Afaik there are friend groups and a trannycord, but not sure if it's an official server one, I don't do any of that shit. There are a few tryhards but I've never came across dudes that got upset or did some gay tantrum shit.

Outbreak 1/2 are great. There are plenty of small details, alternate cutscenes and a few alternate route/endings. If there's an example of a game that came out too early, that'd be it. No scenario goes against the canon of the series, and there are a few that are literally canon.

Complaints about bots are fair but exaggerated. They don't get in your way and don't blow through items. You can also play solo with no AI for the extra challenge. It's very doable, I'm not a sweaty tryhard but I got through both games solo. Although you can just treat the AI like item mules and it works well. Outbreak File 3 was in production, they had a few scenarios already laid out, but disappointing sales of 2 got it canceled. I would have killed for the trilogy to have just waited a couple of years to come out in one big package for the PS3's first year or something. I'd be down to play with anons.

So that's why MGS calls the hardest difficulty European Extreme. Because you're suffering through the game at a shit framerate

Lol, I always assumed that large scale torrenting, as in having a separate machine in your home just for seeding and downloading could possibly get you into trouble over here, but I find hard to believe downloading 30 year old roms or modern games from FitGirl can do you any harm. Good thing is that I've just accepted that the future is dark and have transcended anger and despair for the most part.

Well for one, you literally cannot replicate pic-related on anymore on the latest versions of Blender. (Though that's more for imitating early 3D rendering)

The PBR meme is forced on every material; gone are the days of simple Phong shading and razor sharp shadows. There is also no per-vertex lighting system making it impossible to tell how your lo-poly model will be lit on the system.

Nostalgia is only a byproduct. I'm jaded and cynical and I know time only moves forward and you can't ever go back. Games were much better back then and that's the main reason. Modern games reflect the state of the world in every sense of the word, in a way retro games didn't, really, they were detached and whimsical. I play games to avoid blowing my brains off, not to be reminded of the living nightmare we're all in.
