What's the best Fatal Fury game?

Fatal Fury > Street Fighter = KOF originals, that's my taste.

I think FF designs were all kino and got right both "cool" street clothes characters as well as martial arts designs. KOF originals were too much made to please female fans it seems, and SF (aside from Alpha) always has a really ugly cartoonish look to it where everyone looks like some frankenstein monster

What's better, Fatal Fury or King Of Fighters? Also, do you think the SNK games deserved the fame of Street Fighter? Street Fighter obviously was the catalyst, but it's continued fame is what I mean.

Garou is fine but it's a very simplified Fatal Fury.
For me, it's still Fatal Fury Special, the best fighting game of all time.

Well, you don't have Fatal Fury Special on Genesis, only Sega CD.
In my opinion the SNES versions are better anyway, although the Sega ones also have their own charm and feel broken in a fun way, SNES ones play more like the original game.
In particular I'm fond of Fatal Fury 2 on SNES because of the elimination mode, which I always play with a friend of mine.
Fatal Fury Special on SNES also has a great exclusive music track for Ryo's stage, consisting of an arranged medley of AoF music, I find it much better than the original theme he had in the arcade.

FF1 is rough around the edges but it set the basics, FF2 and FFS are classics dude.

It was cool, but having 3 different layers on stages was a bit too much. The classic 2-plane system didn't need any changes.
I prefer FF2/Special and Real Bout Special.

Real Bout series is great, but I still love Fatal Fury Special the most, and Fatal Fury 2 as well.

I have a soft spot for the SNES port of Fatal Fury 2, simply because it was the one I had as a kid, I played it so much, and it's also the reason why Yamada is my favorite.

I feel the same, and by Fatal Fury I mean Garou Densetsu series, not Mark of the Wolves.

I think KOF should be compared to Capcom's crossover VS titles. The rival of Street Fighter is indeed Fatal Fury.
