Bunch of Mega Drive/ Genesis japanese translations to portuguese in Brazil, also a few new games. I remember reading about Tec Toy officially releasing a translated Yu Yu Hakusho game the same month Super Smash Bros was released.
There were also Show Do Milhao games (a who wants to he a millionaire styled game show) onto the 00's and one brand new Woody Woodpecker game.
Show do Milhao was a craze, I think it first aires in 2000, everyone was talking about it in Brazil. My brother even had a Show do Milhao portable console, an original Game Boy sized portable console that played only a version of Show do Milhao and had thousands of questions.
If I'm not mistaken the Duke Nukem 3D game for Mega Drive/Genesis also was released in 1998.
And lastly, while the Master System was already a meme, I knew a few younger kids who were playing it in by 1998 and into the 2000's, inherited from older cousins or bought by parents who knew nothing about games or technology. But by 2000 the famiclones became ultra cheap and could be bought everywhere from street sellers with pistols, carts with thousands of games, and the kids who were poor but knew about games heavily favored famiclones over Master System, many neighbors and two of my cousins had famiclones when the GameCube was Nintendo's latest console.
