This should never be a thing. I hate it, I feel like the majority of people are just riding the wave of consensus instead of giving an honest opinion. So much of society and social interactions are based around forcing dissenters to either tow the line or excluding them entirely, individuality is a total farce, you can only be "safely" individual. It's one of the reasons I still love 4chan despite it being mostly a shithole now, it is the one place on the internet where conformity is not enforced at all. Everywhere else you can't "be mean" or "upset others" by disagreeing with them too much, on here you can dig your heels in and defend your position forever and there is jack shit anyone can do to overpower you.

The worst part about this is that it's nothing new. How many retarded children in the 90's got into shouting matches over which console is better because of some retarded tribalistic desire to defend "their" console?
