they honestly feel bland, like devs weren't trying too much.
And yes the colors feel washed out, it's not hard to understand under any context. Just look at the sprites on the DBZ screenshot and tell me these colors look fine.
There are many good looking 2D games on 5th gen, mainly arcade ports, and mainly on Sega Saturn, but it still can't compete with the 2D heaven that was 4th gen. PC Engine+MD+SFC all you need for 2D (other than arcades).
