/vr/ - Retro Games

Finally a MiSTer thread. Check me out and let me know what you guys think. Initially I didn't want to get one, but now that I'm covered for PS2/1/GC/Dreamcast I realized it's probably not worth it spending 300 on an FXPak Pro for the SNES that I did actually buy regardless, and I should just insted that into a MiSTer build instead. Aside from the SNES it should cover Neo-Geo and arcade stuff (I think). Maybe N64 and Saturn too, so might as well. Still, trying to get it as cheap as I can, and here's what I'm looking at in EUR.

Noctua fan, shipping, and PSU not included, I'm looking at EUR 478.62 right now. I think that's the best I can do. Now the issue is I'm not sure if should hop on the MiSTer train now or wait maybe a few months to an year for a way better FPGA to come out. I just have a feeling a better kit for the same price will just come out soon after I buy mine. I'm not in a hurry to get one either, but if there's for sure nothing better on the horizon then I might as well. I heard about a MARS FPGA in the works but I don't know much about it.

I have a pretty high end PC but I only really use it for video which I can do in full uncompressed 4:4:4 5k editing.

I don't really enjoy using it for games though and always use consoles when I can even if I already have a game on steam.

Update on this situation: forced it into 480p with an SD launcher but unfortunately the game I picked can't do 480

But it did change to 240p so I have glorious scanlines to boot! It just WERKS!

Just play the PlayStation version

Beat Neo-X on first try with a level 35~ party with no preparation. I actually went into the fight for reconnaissance but ended up playing it out git gud faget

I actually play everything up to my GameCube on my 9" PVM

I sit about 2 feet away from it so it's all fine for me

I play my Playstation games through Sony's own OEM S-video cable in mono sound.
