now that i think about it i wonder if the decline of beastmen is due to the increasing realism of the models and how hard it would be to rotoscope. look at some cutscenes of final fantasy 16. now imagine the mouse character freya from 9 in those cutscenes. with her long muzzle face, big hands and thin legs. imagine some mature rated shit coming out of that mouth. ff9 uses a chibi style but she would only be slightly less exaggerated in 16. hell even the blue lion guy kemari from 10 had a pretty flat face and human proportions.
