How different would gaming be if disks caught on worldwide in the 80s?

>there was a standalone console in the works that combined both the Super Famicom and the SONY CD add-on together in one SKU accepting both cartridges and CD based media, not unlike NEC's PC-Engine Duo or SEGA's Wondermega
>there was also going to be another SKU that was just the add-on and would connect to the underside of Super Famicom's already in circulation by utilizing the EXT port underneath.

the thought of addons being introduced and bringing new functionality to old hardware is a fucking turn on holy shit, market viability my ass just LET MY GADGETS COMBINE

revolutionary at the time

>able to hold more data than cartridges of the day
>added save/load functionality meant games could be more than just straight arcade ports that lasted 2 hours max
>cheaper to produce than cartridges
>disks could be rewritten at special kiosks with new games
>that oh-so-satisfying 'click' sound when you insert a disk into the unit

They should have stuck with Nintendisks (Fami-Floppers in Japan) instead of carts. They could have even upgraded to Zip Disks for larger games, and it would have been much easier to copy and share games, thereby instilling the virtue of sharing in young people.

Sega, Nec and Sony made CD game systems.
Nintendo barely managed to jerry-rig a floppy diskette drive to play their so-called "Nintendisks" (aka Fsmily Computer Disk System zip diskettes). No wonder Nintendo games suck so badly!
