Playing Pathways into Darkness. Took me a while to figure out how to move and thought the game was pretty cool. Ran into one of these fuckers (first enemy in the game), climbed under the desk and pulled the power. Didn't touch the game for years after that.

The music on the ghost levels of Super Mario Kart always made me anxious.

I also never played Clive Barker's Undying because the ghosts appearing in the mirrors in the demo were too scary. I don't think that game is technically retro, though.
