I'd agree with you if we were talking about the original Metroid, endless boring repetitive areas that do nothing to distinguish them from each other.

I think the areas and rooms within them are very distinct overall in Super Metroid though.

Enemies respawning I don't think is a big deal for this game either because it's piss easy to kill 95% of them.

As far as backtracking goes, there is a little bit, but the game can be beaten by an average player in about 7 hours. The best ending requires you to beat it in 3, which isn't too hard, and speedrunners have beaten it with 100% item collection in 48 minutes, so I'd say the backtracking is minimal.

Give it another chance anon, unless platformers just aren't your thing.
