I guess they figured, since Ness has an offensive PSI technique he can learn early on, adding a timed 2nd party member wasn't necessary, like Pippi was on Mother 1.
It would have been nice to get both Porky and Picky around at least during the whole Onett part. Even if Porky was useless, he was humorous, and Picky was based.
Speaking of Pippi, what happened to the anon who was maxing her? I think he was near level 80 last time.
