Tons of retro games are acclaimed to be the greatest yet people still have criticisms or think they're overrated. Metal Gear Solid, Half-Life 1 and OoT are examples. Before no one invalidated their criticism just because the game was popular and there was an actual discussion. As soon as it comes to the 6th gen though you have people shutting down the discussion with non-arguments like "critics liked it", "It was really popular", "You're just a contrarian". It's very interesting how differently the game community changed during that gen.

Somehow I still missed the first wave of leaks. Maybe I just wasn't on /vr/ at the time. I get burned out from the +20 year old console war threads from time to time.
