most of these visual graphic mods feel like they're made with this idea in mind
>this looks old so it's bad
so they change the game simply for the sake of "modern graphics" without considering it making it look right or even thinking of an actual art style over realism
you can see the flaws
>high res image in a flat surface/wall
>different resolutions clashing
>poorly draw images
>effects that don't fit the context of certain textures
>effecst that make things harder to see (which is in someway relevent, considering og doom's art style ties into feedback and making items stand out from miles away, so aesthetic = "language" at times)
>3d models and so on
i prefer stuff like actual sprite fixes, additional sprites/frames, good pixal art and even shit like making the zombiemen sound different, because that can fit the game and be executed since there's always some form of effort in it
it's a case of "bad idea, worse execution" because the people behind it don't go anywhere else besides thinking old graphics are just bad
same thing with those mario/zelda unity remakes that tank the framerate and use assets from anywhere else. when they could have at least follow an art style that fit the devs' direction or at least resembles the concept/promo art like this final fantasy 7 mod

they're the game equivalent of disney live action remakes, because some people are allergic to anything that doesn't look "real", even if the "real deal" looks worse
