I always thought back in the day that the beak was a nose and the hole was a mouth, looked like a big face spitting out penguins... made even less sense.

Always found likelikes to be a pretty strange addition to Zelda dungeons. It's just a bunch of pancakes that like to eat big shields, but leave all the other enemies alone.
