Hey, I thought of another way to enjoy arcade games that don't have limitations on coin-feeding. It's nothing new, but I've just formulated it for myself for the first time and thought that I might as well share.

(WHY: because coin-feeding an arcade game to the end is pointless and boring. This is not about some imaginary gaymuhr cred, for fuck's sake. This is about adding not-entirely-arbitrary limits to arcade games you own or emulate.)

What I mean is, by late 80s arcade games became predominantly coin-feedable (early 80s games had other limits, e.g. no matter how much you coin-feed Pac-Man or Galaga you can still lose). The problem is these games become, of course, unlosable as long as you're paying, which makes the experience really dumb.

Stuff I used to do:
(1) Trying to 1cc only. This makes many games a freaking blast, but many games get way too tough for this even if you have a lot of patience. Also, later stages in arcade games are often not too well designed and often feel stupidly unfair even in very good games.
(2) Check the console port and follow its limited continues scheme. The games that were ported often had limited continue schemes added. But then you could just play the port. Also, balance was often very different. Although this sounds good in theory, it's somehow the least enjoyable way to play.
(3) 1 coin per stage with state saves at the beginning of stages. That's how I used to play beat'em ups. Instead of trying to 1cc the whole fucking thing (which seriously gets one burned out even on the best of games like the D&D Mystara dilogy), I would award myself a credit and save state at the beginning of every level. If I run out of life and credits, I load. The better I play, the more credits I have for later stages. It's alright.

POST TOO LONG, SO SEE FIRST REPLY TO THIS FOR THE ACTUAL FUCKING IDEA OKAY
