Beat this for the second time recently and damn this game is good. The difficulty and the levels are like CV1 on crack, and fucking hell is the music great. Still can't believe I beat this both times without using the other characters or cheating, and Im considering tackling bloodlines once I get my hands on a Genesis flashcart.

why are the bosses significantly easier than the levels

Are there save slots or passwords that will make playing all the levels/branching paths easier for me?

I bought it on 3DS a while back, but the Anniversary collection came with it too. Is one better than the other in some way?

You're thinking of Castlevania 3.

Both the Famicom Disk System, NES, and Famicom versions of the first Castlevania have a checkpoint before Dracula.

For Castlevania 3, the Japanese version (Akumajou Densetsu) for the Famicom has a checkpoint before the final boss. This was removed for the localized US NES version. (The reason they removed it is because of the video store rental market in the US. The harder and more elusive it was to beat the game, the more likely consumers who would otherwise have been satisfied with a rental would go out of their way to fully purchase a copy.)

Is there any way to get infinite lives in this game? I'm tired of having to start the entire fucking level over every time I game over. 90% of this game is tedious repetitive bullshit and the 10 lives cheat doesn't make it any less tedious.

Anyone else having problems with the No Intro NES games set? The other console games work fine, but none of the NES games work on any of my emulators.
And it sucks because I'm specifically looking for Akumajou Densetsu (Jap Castlevania III), and other rom torrents don't seem to have Japanese NES games.
