>7th & 8th gen
Worthless. When you get a physical copy of a game you are getting an incomplete buggy mess that needs download patches to be good/playable. Future players would be better off getting a large capacity HDD and downloading the complete roms onto it.
>6th gen
Disc rot is inevitable, laser assembly fails are inevitable. At least with PS2 and Xbox you can get an HDD and load the games from it.
>5th gen
For disc consoles disc rot will be a problem, but I suppose that will make still functional games pretty valuable maybe. But N64 will be fine as it uses carts.
>4th and 3rd gen
So long as the pins are still good, they should be fine.

I see longevity being the big issue. As far as value, people who grew up with this stuff would be willing to pay nostalgia prices for this stuff. But new comers wanting to discover old games will just emulate instead as they wont want to pay out any real money for some old games. It’ll basically be a dungeon market of old farts paying lots of money for reliving the past, while everyone else moves on and won’t care about this stuff.

I keep all my consoles and games in those big blue 30 gallon tupperware bins in the closet to keep dust off them and to prevent sunlight damage discoloration.
