I saw the downsides of it pretty much immediately. I would play Crystal Chronicles with my friends. Originally if a GBA runs out of juice you just replace the batteries and keep on going, but once some of us upgraded to SP then running out of battery meant taking a complete break while the console charged, because you couldn't hook it up to both the gamecube and charge it at the same time.

My family also used to take 6+ hour road trips, and with old batteries I could play gameboy the entire time, but with the SP once the battery ran out I was fucked
