I haven't played 3 but I am currently playing RS2, only Minstrel Song, Frontier, and a bit of Unlimited.
A trend i've noticed that is consistent with these jrpgs (and is one of their shining qualities) is that if you are playing well and efficiently, most random encounters are over in 1-2 turns; an entire enemy team of monsters wiped out in under a minute!
It's the odd strong enemy that will take longer and pose a real threat. In a sense, i don't quite count random encounters as just single battles but a series of progressive actions taken to defeat the enemy force; usually capped off with the actual boss of the dungeon.

I find it kind of funny that so many jrpgs have some good quality to their gameplay but they are so slow-paced and stuffed with needless filler, like overly elaborate animations, that they are almost intolerable to play after playing SaGa. I felt that way when i played Breath of Fire 3 a couple years ago beautiful sprite work done by a period in which capcom was pushing sprite work other games, like street fighter 3, and the talent pool showed; but boy howdy was it a painfully slow game to play through. It's a very shallow and simple jrpg too, only making the slow pace worse.

Capcom has made a lot of great games in many different genres but I dont think they ever quite got rpgs down; but I digress...

Breath of Fire 3 has a very striking visual flair to it.

>Ryu 2 will never learn that Patty was his sister
>we will never find out what the Zombie Dragon really was
>you will never see the rest of the world of BoF3
>we will never find out which ending in BoF2 was canon
>it will never be revealed if BoF4 really was a prequel or an alternate universe

It hurts /vr/
