I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.

What retro games have you replayed more than 30 times?

Why was it so padded and contrived?
Before anyone takes offense, fallout 2 was the first RPG I played when I was a kid. I loved the absolute freedom that came with gunning down Tubby, taking all his shit, executing all the junkie witnesses and more or less being set for life.
But now that I've replayed 1, it feels so fucking tedious by comparison. There's still some initial structure, but ridiculous quests like repairing Gecko's power plant make me wonder why they had to write it that way. Was going back and forth the mazelike power plant with no actual threat really necessary? What's the point of littering it with npcs when none of them do anything.
Like, the guards I understand, they're there in case you want to do the genocide route. But the other ones may as well be bhramins in that wolf hunting quest and are there just to slow down turns if combat were to theoretically happen.
The towns are also so hollow. Like, there's so many of them and some of them are so much bigger than 1, but it may as well have been a 3rd grader playing around with starcraft's map editor its so pointlessly full of absolutely nothing that matters.
Am I missing something or was 2 the weakest, grindiest entry in the main entries. Its like they learned the wrong lessons from 1.

Which ending is the best for their respective town? Some are obvious(The Den, Modoc, NCR) but others have varying shades of grey. Should you help the Hubolgists on their doomed quest, even if not helping them will actually give them a quicker death? Should Vault City join the NCR or remain Independent? Which of the many gangs is best for New Reno, or should you instead father a child and have him take over/let the tribal come in? Should Redding go with Vault City, New Reno, or NCR? Also FO2/Classic Fallout thread.

This isn't just my favorite PC game of the 90s, but one of the greatest games of all time.

Tim Cain announced Fallout 2 via a Usenet posting in December 1997.

There are a ton of people who prefer Fallout 2 to Fallout 1. Why? I just got to The Den after rushing to get the power armor from Navarro and the whole premise of the sequel is pretty boring so far. Both games have meandering, nonlinear main quests but FO1 was consistently entertaining but FO2 is currently a drag and I don't see how it can possibly outdo the based Master.

I don't want the thread to entirely focus on this since it's /vr/, but is it acceptable to skip from 1 to New Vegas?
