/vr/ - Retro Games

Been playing a lot of Capcom games as of late and a friend of mine brought up how he was gonna play through the DMC games and it got me to look back and check out the series again because admittedly I've always had a hard time with them.

Beat the original in a single day and it was a lot more fun than I initially gave it credit for but the intro portion of the game felt a lot harder than the rest of the game but maybe I just got used to gameplay at that point.

I am intending to play 2 later but I've now been playing 3 and I'm curious to hear people's stories of this game's initial release because I'm playing the HD releases, but I do own and started playing the original copy of DMC3 and fuck me, it humbles me like a mother fucker.
If it weren't for the added checkpoints in Gold, I don't think I would have ever gotten past Mission 5.
I've seen people talk about Cerberus being a filter but I was going insane losing to the boss fight in 5 and having to restart over and over.
Did any of you power through?
Did you get filtered at some point?
Did you end up preferring SE for Gold mode?

In any case, I guess this is just a general thread for DMC talk.
