PC stuff was expensive. Different components were purchased separately. I remember getting the Sound Blaster and it was the best purchase I made yet. Yes, getting music, sound, and voices was a whole separate purchase so the gamepad was down the line in stuff to get for the system. I had already done fine playing mouse and keyboard with Wing Commander 2, X-Wing, Tyrian, and other action games because it was all that I could afford. Home action games with gamepads were relegated to those on my NES and SNES. A gamepad purchase for the PC was not in the cards.when one is poor.

Interact was really proud of their controller design and pushed it hard on every platform.

I wonder how to get that rare PSP hotel game too.

I just remembered my Sound Blaster (1) had this game port on the card. Never could afford a Roland MT-32, still can't. I recently got this for $3, pretty cheap since not many took advantage of controllers on computers then or they were for flightsticks for all the awesome space sims like Wing Commander and X-Wing/Tie Fighter.

That's pretty cool. Now I just need someone to make a controller adapter for the gameport so I get a better D-pad for some of my favorite old DOS games. Still jealous of your P3 retro machine, why P3 over Athlon XP?

The design was still miles better than what I can get for the game port of my 386/486 in those days. The only other d-pad type controller at the time was the Gravis Game Pad.

Today, I will work on my 486DX4 Windows 98SE machine, so I will be flooding this thread with some questions and pictures of my screen. Forgive me for the bad pictures of my monitor, as I do not know how to do camera shots of CRTs (I cannot afford better) without the flicker. I did not want to send the VGA/SVGA to my old capture card either for a cleaner image, so please bear with me.

In the meantime, here's a starter question:
Were there any better controllers for DOS?

I picked this up for under $4USD (local municipality levies heavy taxes) which is the same design as the InterAct 3rd party controllers for SNES, Genesis, etc. I do not have the option to use a USB Sega Saturn pad (nor that video card that came with Sega Saturn ports), and just the game port on my Virba16 (I cannot afford any better). Are there good DOS controllers, I would prefer 6-button layout for Street Fighter, because I remember some hilarious DOS hacks of the game. I never had a controller (nor MT-32) back in the day and I controlled most games with mouse+keyboard. I think some games could be enhanced. Let me know what game port controllers you recommend.
