Hell,why is Duke so stiff when he jumps? Because he's a robot.I don't recall any part in the DLC where it has a mirror.
They even mention the twins death in there but he problably knew them before the events of DNF.

So yeah, Main Duke is arguably Dr Proton best Dukebot who problably escaped from the Area.
Hell the first part of the game is nothing but interaction.Analyzing the enviroment like....a Terminator would do.
