Easiest way to tell if an Amiga game wasn't worth your time and to just pirate it instead: Look at the magazine screenshots and see if it had a giant score box with the characters' face or the company logo on it. Better than 80% success rate.

Well no, not like that. That has a status panel showing you actually useful information. I meant more like this nonsense where there's a status bar with nothing but images of the MCs, the game title, or the company logo. It's completely useless and doesn't do anything but mock the player and remind him that he's playing shovelware.

European developers and UK ones in particular were notorious for doing this and I have no idea who started this trend or why it was considered a good idea.

The guaranteed way to tell if an Amiga game was trash was if it had a huge giant score/status bar covering 25% of the screen with the MC's face on it. If you were browsing a magazine and saw that, you knew in advance to just pirate it.

The #1 warning sign that a game was going to suck was the presence of a huge giant score box often with the MC's face on it. When you saw that, you knew you may as well just pirate the thing and not bother spending actual money on it.
