The amount of grinding in this game should be illegal and punishable by the death penalty.

What are some of your favorite games that are flawed as fuck but you love them anyway?

>game more or less is a never-ending fetch-quest
>game has both random encounters and high encounter rate
>game often forces you to use characters you haven't been using who will be dead-weight when you are forced to use them
>game has a terribad translation that manages to have "yes" and "no" mixed up and give very vague idea of what you are supposed to do next at best
>good fucking luck figuring out how to find the earth shaman or how to get the best ending without using guides or walkthroughs
>etc...
Breath of Fire II basically has every single thing that I hate about JRPGs in it yet it manages to be one of my all-time favorites. Do you guys have games that you like despite it having many features/tropes/things you hate?

This game basically features everything I hate about JRPGs and yet it is one of my all-time favorites. How the fuck does that work?

Let's see here:

Godawful translation that managed to swap "Yes" and "no" around and left you with very vague idea of what you are supposed to be doing.
Game literally is a never ending fetch quest.
Random encounters with ridiculous encounter rates.
Game often forces you use characters you don't want to use so you are often either forced to use worthless under-leveled character or do some level grinding to get that character up to speed.
Good fucking luck figuring out how to find the earth shaman or how to get the best ending without using guides or walkthroughs.

This game basically features everything I hate about JRPGs and yet it is one of my all-time favorites. How the fuck does that work?

Breath of Fire 2

Was really disappointed with it. Was better than the first, but it wasn't really all that 'fun'. The AP/Dragon system felt really weird especially with the strange way AP restoration items were so rare and/or damaging. The end sequence felt both too abrupt of an end after such a long drawn out sequence as well.

Wasn't aware I was playing as Conan.

Which was the first JRPG to have a plot centered around corrupt church/religion? Pic related is the oldest one I can think of.

Can somebody explain what the opening/intro of Breath of Fire 2 meant?

It just seems like a bunch of random stuff is happening.

>game also has secrets that I'm convinced are impossible to figure out on your own like finding the earth shaman or the requirement of the best ending (again mid-90's with no internets)
>etc...

>Fan translation cartridge
>The artwork isn't Americanized in anyway

This is why they fail and I'll never buy one of those repro carts.
