>The 2011 game Outland.
It's close but even then not really, it's more of a combat focused action-platformer like the post SOTN Castlevanias and it has more Ikaruga polarity switching that's mapped to a button than SM's position based switching that's linked to which direction you're facing. It overall seems like a more Ikaruga inspired experience than an SM one, especially those bullet hell-esque challenge rooms.
Which of course if a game is gonna mimick a polarity system Ikaruga is usually the go to and it's a no brainer most people would agree it did the mechanic the best compared to SM or even something like Dimahoo. But the unique way SM did it I feel has a lot more potential to be pushed and squeeze out more fun experimentation and creativity.

Gunstar Heroes followed by Astro Boy Omega Factor and Dynamite Headdy. Though I am very partial to pic related.

Yeah it is but if you're still unsure you could always reference http://shrines.rpgclassics.com/psx/silhouette/basics.shtml for a quick and easy run down of everything.

I've played every version of the game from the Saturn to the Japanese and US PS1 versions. I love the game to death but sadly wish it got a definitive edition or something. As is it is it's arguably Treasure's weakest game of the generation but I think it's such a fun and novel little game that executes on it's core idea well enough that it's worth playing but sadly doesn't push that idea as far as it can be pushed. Not helped by the fact the localized version messed up the game balance thanks to Working Designs getting their grubby hands on it, definitely play the Saturn or Japanese PS1 versions and if you like it well enough after that you can try the US version just to see the things it changes.

This thread is for the cutest most odd/obscure retro games out there. I'll start with a few titles from my personal memory
Chulip
Mischief makers
Stretch panic
Under the skin
Silhouette mirage
One piece mansion
Ribbit king
Mister mosquito
Tron bonne
Gitaroo man (?)

Doesn't have to be ntsc only

>Yup, just a localization team and publisher.

hey at the time they where publishing a lot of stuff most wouldn't even look at. It's easy to whine about

>Muh localization

these days but back then it was different, especially in the PS1 era where it HAD to be 3d or bust
