So, what would have happened if SEGA had just made a single mega console that had the functionality of the Genesis, CD, and 32x in a one box?

I have a feeling that that would have been the better route than the 32x/Saturn debacle.

Did the Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx-16 bring about the decline of console expansions? Did the 64DD put the nail in the coffin? Or was it the PS2 HDD? Was the 3DO MPEG module the best one? What about 3rd party units like the NES Aladdin?

Sega had more than 50% of the market. Library was full of exclusives while most snes games are slow and boring. In fact the Genesis has 3 times the library of snes if you include sega cd & 32x. Also looks badass as fuck while the snes looks like a purple fisher price toy.
