I'd like to see a kind of "King's Field Chronicles" using the Dark Souls engine. The entire Verdite trilogy could be condensed into one large game spanning three generations of characters.

It's unfortunate that the DS fanbase barely acknowledges the existence of KF despite how much it influenced Souls. Maybe a modernized take on KF would help bridge the gap.

Not sure if anyone is really knowledgeable about this, but when I try to play King's Field (Japan) via swap method, the game doesn't load. I read others have the same problem. They claimed the only way to play it was by importing a Japanese PS1, or just emulating the game. I would really rather play it on real hardware since I have it. Surely there's some way to get it working.

Good to see /vr/ only got more retarded since I last dropped in.

It's already been said, but King's Field *is* classic Souls. It's the foundation of the entire Souls series. Albeit, Souls expands on character mechanics, but it's generally the same gameplay style, theme and atmosphere. Except KF didn't suffer from tons of shitty faux early English writing.

KF's graphics are unusually dated, though. Even when the series first came out, there were PS1 games leagues ahead of From's 3D modeling skills. It can take awhile to get used to all the bland textures and square environments.

That said, KF2 (or KF1 in the U.S.) was probably the highlight of the series. KF1 is a simple dungeon crawl, but KF2 steps it up with more vast environments, including outdoor areas that were absent from KF1. KF3 feels like more of an afterthought to KF2. It's a great game in its own regard, but doesn't necessarily improve upon what KF2 already accomplished. I also didn't think the environments were quite as memorable as KF2's.

King's Field General? Why not. We have a dozen other useless generals clogging up the board. May as well try a different subject for a change of pace.

>What is King's Field?
KF is a medieval first-person RPG series by FromSoftware. The series is known for its hellish difficulty, complex dungeons and murky atmosphere, which players either love or hate.

>FromSoftware. Isn't that the same company behind Dark Souls?
KF is often considered a spiritual precursor to Demon's Souls / Dark Souls, and there are some references to KF to be found in the Souls series.

>Which games are available in English?
The first and second KF games for PS1 are actually the second and third games in the series, due to the first KF game never being (officially) localized. There is nonetheless a complete fan translation patch of KF1 for those interested: http://agetec.yuku.com/topic/1827
