You should try playing the original PC versions: no game controller support, no mouse support, and 100% keyboard-only. It was a pain in the ass even though many swore the keyboard controls were excellent.

Last Revalation was great. It had a lot of great levels like the lost library, KV5, and Cleopatra's palace.

And Chronicles had its moments, too. I liked the Irish gallows level with young Lara and liked the shiny catsuit.

The games play great. Stop using the fucking analog stick. The game uses an engine that was designed for the original PS1 controller that lacked the stick and used the D-pad.

And they were great and creative games, and challenging if you didn't use a walkthrough. They really compelled you to explore. It's a shame that the modern ones are just Uncharted clones because they really did suck the soul out of the franchise.

I still like them and replay them from time to time.

I love the classic TR games. They're still fun for me.

The lost library is my favorite part of TR:LR. It's just aesthetically pleasant to stroll through.

Chronicles is good, and it's the last chance you can play a real TR game before everything goes to shit.

I never got the complaints with the controls. All the PS1 games used the same game engine with improvements incrementally added to each sequel, but the controls were still made to have Lara controlled with the D-pad and not the stick. If you just used the D-pad then the controls are just fine.

TOMB RAIDER!

The PS1 ones always came out right before Christmas, and at Christmas time is when I got them and played them.

Enjoy a Christmas version of the Final Fantasy prelude

Play it on the PS2 where you can use its texture-smoothener that smoothens the edges enough to make it look nicer but not over-smoothens to where everything looks too blocky

Also use the d-pad instead of the stick. It makes it a lot easier to control.

>its everything I could ever want out of an indiana jones-like game

Ironically when they made Indy games for PS1 they ripped off the TR games.

TR was the first game to make full use of a full 3-D environment and full 3-D avatars; that makes it a bit revolutionary for its time.

And I still love replaying them. The huge vast areas were ridiculously creative for the time, and still pose a challenge.

No one has love for the classic Tomb Raider games?

I've been recently re-playing them, and it amazes me how very playable they still are (graphics aside obviously), and how large and complicated the areas are.

The Tomb raider games had a lot of nice-looking levels. One particular part that I really like is the lost library with its star-covered ceiling.

Plus we can't neglect Final Fantasy 9 and all of its comfy areas.
