Super shit out of luck, unless you chip it with PS1 functionality (provided chips for those models still exist). Sorry dude, the softmod way to start up burned PS1 discs only works on models SCPH-5000x onwards. I'm on your same boat. It's not like the PS1 emulation is the end of the world, it sure can't compare with the real thing but don't give it up so easily. Setting the games up is a bitch tho, I suggest you look into guides for POPS.
