Quake II for PS1 was very nice, especially the deathmatch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNZbhH1oQYE
for the same console i've also liked a lot Duke Nukem: Time To Kill, but that's not a FPS, so i won't start any OT blabbering about that one.

Daily reminder emulating PSX version is the best Quake 2 experience you can ever get.

You clearly have never played the PSX version so why you feel like you're prepared to criticize it is beyond me. PC Quake 2 is brown, muddy, washed out and boring. Conversely, Quake 2 on PSX is crisp, vibrant, colorful and richly atmospheric. It also has better textures, better lighting, and the framerate is butter smooth. Just look at pic related and tell me that chunky, ugly vanilla Q2 on PC looks half as good.

You use the typical argument of "everything is better on PC because of PC capabilities", but that's bullshit. Mods and extra features are just band-aids on a gaping wound. PC Q2 has shit aesthetics and floaty gameplay and only becomes barely passable once you install mods, and even then, can't replicate the kind of experience the PS1 version delivers right out of the box.

>It's got password saving, and multiplayer is over link cable which is better than splitscreen.
Except it doesn't actually save anything. It just lets you start at a certain level but doesn't preserve any of your ammo or anything, which fucking sucks. And no, two player multiplayer on two screens is not better than 4 player splitscreen in any way whatsoever. 2 player deathmatch is boring as fuck.

Just started playing this after another anon recommended it to me... wow, I've gotta' say, this is pretty impressive. I had no idea they could pull this kind of thing off on PS1 hardware. Very crisp, detailed and consistently smooth framerate. Not quite as good as the PC version for obvious reasons, but it's a fairly different experience. Slightly altered level layout, a lot more colorful, and weapons feel much more powerful (largely due to the rumble). This has to be the best shooter on the PS1 by far.

Cut content or not, the fact they made it look as good as it did and running so smoothly is a massive technical achievement. I can't think of any 5th gen shooter that approaches this level of visual fidelity without sacrificing framerate.
