Why was this series so overshadowed and outperformed by Resident Evil and Silent Hill?

Personally I liked it more than either but I also recognize that's personal preference

I LOVE this game, cant find a physical copy. Also will need NTSC PS1. Or should I just emulate it. Will the feeling be the same?

Started P.E. for the first time the other day. I'm at the start of Day 3 and it's ok so far, but it feels a little easy? Does it get any more difficult as the game progresses?
