A bunch of people don't play games in single session, and resuming midway trough is basically the same as starting fresh again.
Most games need some way to deal with the issues caused by questionable memory due absence.

The Owl is just a terrible way to do it. You can see a lot of refinements in each successive game on how to infer the goals.
