There were literally 10 GBA games or something. The GBA is actually the ultimate YGO console.
There's games for:
>literally emulating the early days of the OCG (Eternal Duelist Soul)
>autists who mark out for Dandylion being included in a GBA game (Ultimate Masters 2006)
>let's go to Duel Academy and hang out with Alexis until Jaden walks up and challenges you to a duel (Duel Academy)
>participating in dumbass tournaments over and over and opening the shittiest packs you can think of (7 Trials to Glory)
>anime-inspired games that carry on from Dark Duel Stories instead of the OCG and do whatever the fuck they want, including letting you fucking use the Egyptian Gods (TSC, Reshef)
>literally just fucking watching the dubbed anime (GAME BOY ADVANCE, VIDEO! NOW YOU CAN WATCH ALL YOUR FAVORITE CARTOONS ON YOUR GAME BOY!)
>how about Yu-Gi-Oh! but it's Mario Party/Fortune Street?
>DUNGEON DICE MONSTERS
>totally competent if bland sims with solid balance in single player (STDD, WCT04)
Up to 2006, it has basically every type of Yu-Gi-Oh! experience you could possibly want. I am mega autistic, so the more I play the GBA games, the more unique quirks I find in each one.
As for the modern game, like everything else it has had power creep, doesn't mean it can't be fair and doesn't mean it can't have good formats with engaging gameplay. If you weren't following through the years you'll just go "jesus christ there's like 6 types of Extra Deck monsters??" without understanding at first how they each serve a particular purpose in practice and each have their various uses. Overall I don't actually play modern YGO, but while it's a totally different game from oldschool YGO, that's not really a bad thing. Really with stuff like Dueling Book people actually participate in alternative formats from all over YGO's history (not to mention the popularity of Progression formats where they go through every pack in sequence and make decks with whatever they get) YGO could be worse
