I like the game and even I think at this point it was just getting silly for characters to find themselves in repeats.

For Jill it kind of worked in 3. Her getting stuck in the outbreak isn't too huge a leap in logic. She's from Raccoon. With CV though, well that was the first game where the characters went looking for trouble. Even the first game was supposed to be a simple investigation that went south.

I say this a lot but the series shouldn't have a real antagonist. Umbrella's not Cobra. They where a bunch of scientists who really only served as exposition and where done in by their own greed. The real "bad guy" is the city, the police station and the mansion. Maybe you get some humans who try to take advantage and maybe you can even have Umbrella try to cover their tracks but the real threat is always inhuman. It's the situation that's larger than any one person or group.

Honestly I think even having characters come back at all is a mistake. Chris and Jill had no idea what to expect and Leon and Claire where fresh faces who where new tot he zombie thing. By their second and third outings though it's just become eye rollingly self aware and bland. We need new protagonists
