i actually figured out a trick i am using.
the reason i respawn with the weapons/stats i had from the previous map is because of the autosave. if i delete the autosave, die, i respawn with 100% hp and just a pistol. i prefer to complete all the levels with a pistol start, all the levels are designed to be able to be completed with the default doomguy so i like to play the game through this way
