What really messed Sonic X-Treme up from the get go was the odd decision to let the boss engine be developed using the single development kit SoJ sent them, while having the main gameplay and levels engine be the one who'd get ported over later, it should've been the other way around as the levels and general gameplay are obviously more important in a Sonic game than its bosses, I have no idea how they messed something like this up.

Well, I might be odd for saying this, but I really wish Sonic 3D Blast had some sort of sequel. I know SEGA will never do it because it's a concept that got poorly received by fans overall, but it's odd to me that not even Sonic's massive fan gaming community has never made an actual 3D version of this concept. With more polish, this could work well, it's not a concept that is doomed from the start, especially if you switch the isometric view for a real 3D one, platforming would be more viable and would open up possibilities for level design, it also solves one issue I have with 3D Sonic, which is that you can ignore the enemies completely if you want since the extra axis makes it easier to just go around them, enemies have become less and less important for Sonic's gameplay over the years, and this formula solves that, while also being the only real Sonic Collect-A-Thon until now, which I feel is something Sonic could thrive in.

I don't like the whole deal of the checkpoints being the access to the Special Stages either, I feel it messes up the pacing for the stages, I prefer how Sonic 1 did it, in between stages. I think continues were given when you got 10.000 point or more in a single act. I know Sonic 1 was the most bundled in title, but for some reason I feel Sonic 2 is talked about a whole lot more, and referenced as people's introduction to the character more also, don't know why that is though.
