Very simple reason actually. To mimick the style of Western computers and give the illusion the Super Nintendo was powerful and more akin to a PC rather than a toy or home video system. Light blues and purples used to be business friendly colors, more mature, more technological, more sophisticated, etc. The Super Nintendo was to be portrayed more so as a technological innovation rather than a video game console.
