This and probably also licensing issues. Almost all of the race mods in GT2 are based on Super Taikyu cars. The only Super Taikyu car since then was the Drider Civic in GT4.
And as cool as the race mods are, the truth is they weren't really used much, nor was there really a reason to do so. You had to spend the money for all 3 weight reductions, and an additional ~90k credits and all you'd get outside of the different look was the ability to adjust the aerodynamics. The generic wings from GT4 served the same purpose and with GT having a livery editor now the different look isn't that big of a draw.
