It's more or less a holistic gameplay overhaul that despite being a decade old now, still gets worked on to make it a very bloated soup mod with some questionable liberties taken, including a (optional) 'map enhancement script' for IWAD maps that more often than not fills levels with visual clutter. Also known for some weird quirks in the past like pic related; I'm pretty sure at one point chaingunners did less damage than in vanilla Doom too, and also counted the player as a monster which fucked with mods that gave random monsters elite-like modifiers and recolors.

For simply adding fancy gore and nothing else there's been stuff like Ketchup, NashGore, Bolognese, etc that you could probably fit on with the rest. In the past (and probably still now) there were people that tried to run BD with other mods which unsurprisingly ends in a broken mess for just thinking it adds only the gore. Or depending on certain mods, summoned boners.

If memory serves it's one of the earlier versions but I'm not too sure since I don't tinker with BD things much. As far as Plutonia was concerned, MAP04 was even more obnoxious about it.

Also I got this but I'm not sure if it's from base BD or a fork.
