Even if I were to agree with you that 2D is inherently more beautiful, which I won't even concede one way or another, beauty isn't everything and 3D spaces allows for more gameplay possibilities.

Essentially you're saying you're a graphics whore and gameplay doesn't matter. There are pros and cons to using different things, doesn't mean they're not worth the sacrifice.
