You can get the original Timeshock for practically nothing (one pound/euro or two dollars) by pledging the remake's kickstarter.

It probably is the most appreciated virtual table among actual pinball fans, but most regular gamers probably haven't even heard of it.

Also, there's a kickstarter for a remake going on.

For virtual tables (ie. games), I would name three important factors: physics, table design and audio/visuals (ie. stuff that doesn't directly affect gameplay, but sets the atmosphere).

I haven't played much either IRL or virtual tables, but the Pro Pinball series really shines in all three areas. I might even say that I haven't played other pinball games (or at least the ones avaible on PC) because they don't live up to the standards these games already set in the late 90's: the physics are realistic as fuck, the prerendered graphics look still damn pretty (picture related) and the skill level is just perfect, varying from Fantastic Journey (simple but still challenging) to Timeshock and BRUSA (complex in terms of both physical table design and "game modes", latter even more so).

A different fag here, but here's a proper screenshot and yes, it is an actual gameplay shot. The prerendered graphics were so much ahead of the time that it was simply ridiculous.
Also, the physics in Pro Pinball games are incredible. I especially like the heavy feeling of the last game, Fantastic Journey.

Meanwhile in 1997... (or maybe actually little later, I don't remember if the highest resolutions were avaible before patching)
"Well-done 2D graphics ages well" has never been a more appropriate statement.
