Just because a game is static doesn't mean it's automatically easy. Contra 3 is also very static anyways.

Alien Soldier gameplay is trash, the Phoenix Force move and being able to convert projectiles into health drops with the counter is too OP. Some of the boss designs might be decent, but it doesn't matter when you can easily cheese most of them. Also AS goes too much into pure boss rush territory, the actual level design is extremely weak.

Looks better than the majority of Treasure's games and their godawful art direction -- Mischief Makers being a prime example.
