>It's more than just edgy dark Coldsteel the Hedgehog dark, there's a sense of rust and sinister feelings and it's all weird and I like it a lot.
I think that it does grimdark edge the right ways, it's ever present and never lets up. Every character has a strong motivation (usually vengeance for horrible wrongdoings), and just the same they are mostly very twisted and dark persons who at times are outright villainous.
They all partake in this reckless and massively destructive tournament to kill each other for the whims of someone who could just as well be the devil, and many of them will be doublecrossed if they win, said devil delighting in putting his boot on the face of people who have (relatively) noble intentions, while preferring to accommodate those who only want revenge.

Everything about the setting in Twisted Metal Black is bitter, horrible, bleak, sad, cruel, hopeless, and unfair, and it's suitable too, being that the game takes place inside of the mind of Needles Kane, aka Sweettooth. It's based on how a cynical, sadistic, and black hearted serial killer interprets the world, he sees little good in others, and he's firm in how being good never pays, how life will inevitably shit on you, or how do-gooders are secretly twisted and vile like him, he scoffs at the perceived double standards and fancies himself the only one who truly sees the world for what it is.
Might makes right to him, and since he's capable of cruel murder and can get away with it, he feels he deserves to, anyone who's a victim of anything deserves it for being weak. This all also fits with how at times, the edge is so thick and dark that it becomes comical, for Needles is a clown.

I was thinking about that.
Like how Twisted Metal Black was a surprise detour into Edgy-Grimdarkville, but it's ok and makes sense, because it's taking place inside the mind of Needles Kane, the serial killer clown who drives Sweet Tooth.
It's based on his twisted perception on the world.
