They're fantastic and experimental shooters. They maintain the same story telling/characters, add some new ones and expand the world and antics a bit. The big change is in the game play, it keeps the drop but adds an elemental bubble system (each with different properties, fire rises, light lowers, water stays in place, wind attracts) that chains enemies together for combos, it introduces a command input (like a fighting game) system for special shot types which cover all directions and allows rapid shots which also trap enemies in bubbles, adds a physics system as well as a grab, every enemy and physical object (crystals, enemy weapons) can be picked up, thrown and has their own physical properties. I love the first FND, Marchen Adventure is a weak game, Panorama is ambitious, 2 is one of the most radical and successful shifts in game design I've ever seen. It's fantastic and even got a fan translation showing off how ridiculously funny it is at the same time. The remixed sequel to 2, Boomerang is also absolutely stellar and refines mechanics like making the grab double as a punch so now you can punch bosses to death, punch through walls of danmaku and even parry certain kinds of attacks.

They're fucking insane.

More games should have punching. And grabbing. You can grab everything in this game. Also punch it. Why dodge when you can punch? Why shoot when you can throw? Just punch. Punch harder.
