The first time a metroid latched onto me in the first game, I didn't know how to kill it or remove it. After hopping around in a panic and dying, I was so fucking freaked out I didn't play the game again for a few weeks. Then I slowly, slooooooooooowly began poking at them until I figured out what worked.

When Metroid II came along, the further evolutions of metroids would get a yell out of me but that was due to surprise lightning bolt rape and whatever else they did. The few normal ones towards the end of the game didn't really bother me much since I knew what to do. Then when I played Super Metroid, and got to the end of the game and entered the dead room, it was the first game all over again with me being unable to figure out how to get the fucking thing off me. I didn't stop playing, but every time I went through that sequence for the next couple months I started shivering and shaking uncontrollably(though without any real fear).

I gave no fucks during Fusion/Primes.

Thinking back on it, metroids were the last monster I ever had a nightmare about.
